Best Shooting Sticks

Source: rifleshootermag.com

Shooting sticks are becoming more and more popular in the world of shooting, and this is largely down to the increased stability and accuracy they provide. They are essentially stronger versions of camera tripods that hold rifles and snipers still, which can help the operator to increase accuracy over longer ranges. The best shooting sticks help hunters to hit perfect shots over incredible distances, and if you ever get the chance to see one in action, you will see just how good they are.

They come in various forms including monopods, meaning it has one leg (similar to a walking stick); bipods, which are most common and sometimes attached to the under-rail of the gun; and tripods, which have three legs and look very much like camera stands.

When it comes to actually buying a shooting stick, you will probably notice that the market for them is surprisingly large and they come in all different shapes and sizes. If you are struggling to decide on which stick to buy then read on because we will be going over the top seven shooting sticks taking all factors like price, quality, usefulness, and design into account.

#1 – Primos Gen 2 Tall Monopod Trigger Stick, 33-65-Inch

Primos Gen 2 Tall Monopod Trigger Stick, 33-65-Inch

Primos Gen 2 Tall Monopod Trigger Stick, 33-65-Inch

Coming in at number one on our list is the Primo Gen 2, which is made by one of the best manufacturers in the market. The Monopod allows you to quickly setup your gun and take the shot, which can be really helpful in situations when time is of the essence.

The Review

If you can appreciate a good looking shooting stick, then you will love the Promos Gen 2. It is made up of three, extendable sections with a somewhat, camouflaged handle and v-shaped grip. The pattern on the grip is really nice, and it will hopefully help you to blend into your surroundings more, which is great if you are hunting.

It can be extended from thirty-three inches all the way up to sixty-five, which is the perfect height for all situations. It is big enough for a tall person to use it standing up, and it works great if you want to prop it up on a wall or something. The height of the stick is controlled by a small trigger built into the handle, and this makes changing height incredibly convenient. All you have to do is squeeze the trigger until it has expanded to your desired length and then you are good to go.

Features

  • Possibly the main attraction of this monopod is the trigger lock, which allows for a speedy setup.
  • The yoke, which is the bit that holds the actual gun, is fully removable.
  • It can be extended from 33 inches to a maximum of 56 inches.
  • It has a 360° rotating axle along with the removable V-shaped yoke.
  • The aluminum leg ensures that your gun will always be safe and secure, and it can even support heavier shooting cameras.
  • You use this as a walking stick, as well as a binocular stand.

The Verdict

Overall the Primos Gen 2 Tall Monopod Trigger Stick is a fantastic monopod, providing you with a strong and sturdy mount for your gun. The trigger allows for a quick setup which is nice, and the handle is very ergonomic.

#2 – Vanguard Scout B62 Bi-Pod with V-Shaped Yoke

Vanguard Scout B62 Bi Pod with V-Shaped Yoke

Vanguard Scout B62 Bi Pod with V-Shaped Yoke

After years of manufacturing high-quality shooting accessories, Vanguard Scout has finally released the Scout B62 Bipod, which is a fantastic mount.

The Review

Vanguard Scout B62 Bi-Pod is an incredibly lightweight, yet sturdy mount, which is down to the aluminum alloy that it is made. It lets the user rotate a full 360°, which allows for shots from any angle. The adjustable legs also feature two padded hand rests, as well as grippy, rubber feet and a rubberized V-shaped yoke.

Its quick release legs allow you to extend it from 22.5 inches to a mighty 62 inches in a matter of seconds, meaning you never have to miss a shot again. Having two legs makes this stand a better fit for someone who wants more accurate shots, but the downside is that it weighs more.

Features

  • The legs are made of an aluminum alloy that makes them incredibly light, while still being strong.
  • It has quick release legs, splitting it into four sections that total 62 inches in a matter of seconds.
  • The yoke is v-shaped and can swivel a full 360 degrees, allowing for the perfect shot from any angle.

The Verdict

The Vanguard Scout B62 is a steal for the low price, making it a great shooting stick for someone just entering the shooting scene as it offers most of the desired features at an affordable price.

#3 – Primos Gen 2 Jim Shockey Edition Deluxe Tri Pod Trigger Stick, 24-62-Inch

Primos Gen 2 Jim Shockey Edition Deluxe Tri Pod Trigger Stick, 24-62-Inch

Primos Gen 2 Jim Shockey Edition Deluxe TriPod Trigger Stick, 24-62-Inch

The Primo Gen 2 Tripod is almost the same as its little brother, who we reviewed earlier on. The only difference between the two is that the Jim Shockey edition is a tripod, while the one we reviewed first is a monopod.

The Review

If like us, you liked the look of the Primos Gen 2 Monopod, then you will love the tripod. It is like a bigger, better version, as it has three legs instead of one, but it keeps the same styling points that we loved, as well as that quick release trigger.

You will have no issue with changing the height of the stick in a covert situation because the adjustable legs are incredibly quiet. You adjust the legs with the help of the built-in trigger, which is very responsive and surprisingly useful. You can control everything from the height to the direction your gun is pointing directly from the handle, and that is one of the main reasons why I love the trigger series from Primos.

Features

  • It contains the latest trigger stick GEN 2 which enables for extremely quiet telescoping, which is useful for stealthy operations.
  • The three, strong legs provide a lot of support for your gun, but they are also lightweight which is useful for transporting them.

The Verdict

If you are in the market for a comfortable, sturdy, and silent Shooting stick then you are in the right place as the Primos Gen 2 Jim Shockey Edition Deluxe TriPod Trigger Stick is just that!

#4 – Hammers Telescopic Shooting Tripod w/ Pivot V-Yoke Max. Height 68 inch

Hammers Telescopic Shooting Tripod w/ Pivot V Yoke Max. Height 68"

Hammers Telescopic Shooting Tripod w/ Pivot V Yoke Max. Height 68″

Hammers are no stranger to creating quality shooting tripods, and this product is no different. It features everything that you want to see on a good stick, inclusion a grippy yoke as well as sturdy legs.

The Review

The stealthy, all-black exterior of the Hammers Telescopic Shooting Tripod makes this one cool looking stick, which will blend into your surroundings well during stealthy missions. It is a lot less showy than some of the other stands available in the market, but it gets the job done well.

It can extend slightly more than the other stands we have met so far, going from 25 inches to a massive 68! The stand is steady, even under a heavy load, and this is partly down to the feet. By default the feet are covered in a thick rubber grip, however, if the situation calls for something more secure, you can pull the rubber caps off to reveal spiked feet, perfect for gripping into wet ground and rock.

Features

  • It comes with rubber caps for the feet, which can be placed over the standard spiked feet.
  • It can extend to sixty-eight inches, making it perfect for taller shooters. However, it can also go down to twenty-five inches.
  • The yoke is v-shaped and can be swiveled all the way around.

The Verdict

Overall this is a great stand that works well under extreme conditions. The strong alloy aluminum and metal, spiked feet paired with the stealthy exterior mean that this would be ideal for a covert operation on the slippy ground, something that not all of these stands could cope with.

#5 – Primos Gen 2 Bipod Trigger Stick, 24-61-Inch

Primos Gen 2 Bipod Trigger Stick, 24-61-Inch

Primos Gen 2 Bipod Trigger Stick, 24-61-Inch

Once again we are met with a Primos Gen 2 product, which just goes to show how good they are at getting the job done. The feature-packed, budget-friendly stands make for great buys, no matter if you are a newbie to the shooting scene or a veteran.

The Review

This is the bipod version of the Primos Gen 2, meaning it comes in between the monopod and tripod in regards to size and weight, making it the ideal stand if you are on the fence over which direction to go in (Ultra-portable or ultra-stable). It has the same grip design that we have seen before, as well as the same trigger mechanism.

This allows for virtually silent height adjusting, which is incredibly useful, as well as a fast setup time, which is also really useful. Having only two legs may take a bit of getting used to if you are coming from either three or one, but once you do then it will be fine.

Features

  • The fluid trigger mechanism helps you extend the bipod quickly and silently.
  • It has a grippy handle, giving you lots of support in wet conditions.
  • The legs can quickly extend from 24 to 61 inches, with the help of the trigger.

The Verdict

Like we mentioned, this is the perfect compromise between Primos’ monopod and tripod variations, making it perfect if you are unsure which one of the two to go for.

#6 – Mossy Oak Mo-Bui Compact Camo Shooting Stick, Mossy Oak Infinity

Mossy Oak Mo-Bui Compact Camo Shooting Stick, Mossy Oak Infinity

Mossy Oak Mo-Bui Compact Camo Shooting Stick, Mossy Oak Infinity

Mossy Oak is a more budget-friendly manufacturer, making cheap, yet cheerful, shooting sticks, perfect for novice shooters.

The Review

Coming in at just over twenty dollars (check current price), you really can’t go wrong by picking up this compact monopod. It features a camouflaged exterior that we haven’t met on our list yet, which would be perfect for woodland shooting.

It has to be said that this is easily the most compact shooting stick on the list, extending to a maximum of 34 inches, from the collapsed size of 14.5. This compact form factor makes the stick incredibly light, meaning it could be easily carried in a bag, or even used as a walking stick as the grip is quite comfortable.

Features

  • It is incredibly compact, with a maximum length of thirty-four inches.
  • It has a woodland camouflage pattern, making it perfect for covert hunting.

The Verdict

Like we mentioned, if you are new to the world of shooting and want to pick up a compact, camouflaged hunting stick, perfect for woodland shooting then this is the stick for you. It is incredibly budget friendly.

#7 – Guide Gear 42 inch Shooting Stick Tripod

Guide Gear 42 inch Shooting Stick Tripod

Guide Gear 42 inch Shooting Stick Tripod

The Guide Gear tripod looks quite similar to a camera tripod but don’t let looks fool you; this is a great gun stand, perfect for shooters on a tight budget. It is unusual to find a shooting tripod at such a low price, but the Guide Gear certainly does the job.

The Review

It has to be said that the Guide Gear is not the best shooting stick on the market, not by a long shot, but it gets the job done at a reasonable price (check current price). It has a plastic, v-shaped yoke that will hold any low-powered rifle well, however, if you are planning to shoot a high-powered sniper from this, you need to look elsewhere.

Features

  • It has an overall weight of 1.6 lbs, making it extremely lightweight and easy to transport.
  • The Guide Gear places a lot of importance in its stability with a rock steady unit that can deliver dead-on shots.
  • Can extend to a respectable 42 inches.
  • It can be easily folded stored, making it the perfect for traveling with.

The Verdict

This is not the stand for you if you are looking for the most feature-packed shooting stand on the market, but if you don’t plan to shoot anything incredibly powerful and don’t mind compromising on a few features, then this will be a great buy for you.
